Dr. Hilary Evans grew up in Charlotte, NC and received her Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science from North Carolina State University. After that time she worked various jobs but soon realized veterinary medicine was her only true passion. She enrolled at Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine where she went on to receive her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) in June 2005. She then entered a one-year Small Animal Medicine and Surgery Internship at the Metropolitan Veterinary Emergency and Referral Center in Akron, Ohio.
Since graduation, Dr. Evans has taken her passion for veterinary medicine to the Cape Animal Referral and Emergency Center in Massachusetts, Dove Lewis Emergency Animal Hospital in Oregon, and then in 2011 she was drawn to the Lowcountry and joined the Charleston Veterinary Referral Center. After years working as an emergency veterinarian she decided her skills would be better utilized in trying to prevent animal crises, and in the spring of 2017 joined the team at James Island Veterinary Hospital.
Dr. Evans is very excited about developing lasting relationships with her patients and clients. Her main areas of interest are internal medicine, preventative medicine, and client education. Dr. Evans believes one of the most important aspects of medicine is education and communication, and determining the best approach for each patient.
Dr. Evans lives in Charleston with her dog Freya and cats Romney, Rikki, and Finn. In her free time she enjoys outdoor activities such as hiking, biking, running, gardening, and stand up paddle boarding.
